Remembering Larry Levan

Virtually all the DJs I love and respect have quoted Larry Levan as being their earliest example of dance floor wizzardry, one that would later allow them to pass on the experience to the masses. While I was not fortunate enough to ever experience Larry Levan for myself, I did however get to experience many of his disciples’ craft, which are themselves nothing short of legendary: Danny Tenaglia and Junior Vasquez to name only these two.

Music blogger Michaelangelo Matos recently spoke with NYC DJ Danny Tenaglia and UK nightclub Ministry Of  Sound founder Justin Berkmann about their memories of the late Levan, his music and the profound impact his legacy has had on the world of Dance Music.

Danny Tenaglia: 2 dates at Stereo, Montreal

Anyone who has ever experienced a live DJ set by Danny Tenaglia is sure to know what a unique musical journey that the man dubbed as the DJ’s DJ brings. But like many things on this Earth, there is usually more than meets the eye (or ear, in this case) and anyone who has ever experienced a night with Danny Tenaglia at Stereo Nightclub in Montreal will know what I mean.

Just announced are 2 (not jus6t one, but 2!!) consecutive nights at Stereo: Danny Tenaglia will perform for your aural pleasure on July 24th and 25th. Road trips from New York, Toronto and many other nearby cities are already being organized. Time off has been booked for better recovery. This promises to be one weekend to remember.

The only questions is: should one attend only one or both nights? Better rest well until then.

Tickets for both nights go on sale for $60 on July 2nd, available only on the Stereo web site.

Interview: Danny Tenaglia in Beirut, Lebanon

One of the greatest DJs of our time, Danny Tenaglia, shares his insight on what it means to perform as a DJ, the value of self-confidence as an artist and why 2 hour sets don’t make sense. To quote the man: “Be yourself, everyone’s invited, Music is the Answer and Love is the Message!”

Danny played in Lebanon for the first time, at Forum de Beirut, on Saturday June 5th, 2010.
